Adjustment, contact and inspection
Stitched dark brown leather defines both the straps and padded contact areas of this headcollar, making it a different maintenance choice from washable polyester webbing. Metal buckles at the crown and nose provide adjustment, while an opening throat clip and lower attachment ring complete the handling interface. The available Pony, Cob and Full formats should be assessed against the horse's head and your current adjustment positions. Set the buckles before attaching a suitable lead, then examine the noseband, jaw clearance and crown position without forcing the leather into a tight arrangement. A leather strap is not automatically a breakaway component, and the product is not described as offering a controlled release under load.
After handling, wipe off surface dirt with a suitable lightly damp cloth and dry the halter away from direct heat. Use a leather cleaner and conditioner appropriate to the item instructions, keeping excess product away from joints where it may hide damage. Examine the punched holes, stitching, clip action and metal ring during the same routine. This version is worth considering if you prefer a leather hand feel and can keep up with conditioning and controlled drying. A frequently soaked yard routine may make a synthetic alternative easier to maintain. Padding does not establish fit or a therapeutic benefit, and cracked or stretched leather should not be dismissed as cosmetic wear. Keep all use supervised and assess tying, turnout or transport requirements separately rather than treating the material as a safety certification.
